Welcome to the weekend edition of H-Town Locals where we give an update on any events that were shared earlier this week and share new ones!

We are looking to have a “Houston restaurants you need to try” section every week so help us out and send in some recommendations (just hit reply!).

Houston Rodeo Bar-b-que contest (through March 1) - “More than 250 teams compete in the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. While most team tents are invitation-only, visitors can enjoy several public venues, including The Garden Stage, sponsored by Miller Lite, Rockin’ Bar-B-Que Saloon and the Chuckwagon. Plus, the Carnival, presented by First Community, is open for wild rides and fun games.”

Houston vs Salt Lake volleyball game - 7 pm - “Cheer on the hometown team, LOVB Houston Volleyball, as they face LOVB Salt Lake!“

Dragons and Mythical Beasts Live - Family friendly event at 6:30 pm - “Calling all brave heroes! Enter into a magical world of myths and legends in this fantastical show for all the family.”

Ladies N Lyrics at Sneaks Coffee and Lounge 9pm - 1am: “Rodeo Kickoff is the Thursday night vibe! Pull up with your crew, hit the mic, and vibe out to classics and bangers. Sing, sip, and shine—this is where the energy’s at. Don’t miss it!”

Friday Feb 28th

Roller Rink Opening Day 5-11pm: Enjoy music by Soul Control featuring DJ Elevated and Mookie Copeland serving up quality eclectic musical experiences! The Daisies & Pancakes skate community & skate instructors will showcase their epic talents. The first 50 skaters in line skate for free!- see more

Go Texan Day at the Houston Rodeo - “Go Texan Day is the unofficial kickoff of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and when the entire Houston community is invited to celebrate Western heritage and to raise awareness of Rodeo season. Wear your western attire–such as jeans, cowboy boots and cowboy hats–for this all-day celebration on Feb. 28, 2025! Kick things off with us in downtown Houston at Rodeo Roundup from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. After that, watch the Trail Rides make their way into Memorial Park, then meet us at the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest for an evening of good food and good music. It’s a full day of activity on Go Texan Day!”

Rice Theatre Presents “Revolutionists” (Fri/Sat/Sun): “The Revolutionists by Lauren Gunderson is a high-energy, hilarious new comedy set against the backdrop of the French Revolution. It follows four women – dethroned queen Marie Antoinette, the assassin Charlotte Corday, playwright Olympe de Gouges, and Haitian spy Marianne Angelle – who navigate a world of political upheaval, artistic ambition, and dangerous ideals together.”

Craft community day - for all ages - 11am - 3pm: “Join HCCC for a free festival highlighting local artist guilds and community groups!”

Sunday March 2nd
